About the Team
Careem Grocery is working to transform how people buy grocery, pharmacy, and retail items. As a new vertical within Careem, it is still in the early build stage and presents a range of core challenges and opportunities as the team pursues ambitious growth targets.
Role Overview
In this position, you will shape assortment strategy by defining what is offered by store and partnering with other teams on sourcing, pricing, and promotions across markets. The role is suited to someone with strong experience in product procurement and end-to-end supply chain management, with a clear focus on delivering quality products at competitive prices.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and develop the product range for Careem Grocery.
- Set the go-to-market approach for the category.
- Align selection plans with the wider business and departmental strategy.
- Identify the products that should be sourced within each category.
- Track and source emerging consumer trends in online grocery and quick commerce.
- Negotiate and secure the right assortment at the best price, quality level, and minimum order quantities while meeting business goals and supplier terms.
- Partner with merchandising teams to support successful campaign execution.
- Coordinate with supply chain teams to maintain stock availability and ensure smooth onboarding of new items.
- Work with pricing teams to source competitive pricing and protect category profitability.
- Maintain supplier relationships through regular business reviews and growth planning.
- Support the category assistant in keeping item content accurate and ensuring strong app visibility.
What You’ll Need
- At least 5 years of experience in grocery, specifically in buying or category management; experience in a tech company or startup is considered an advantage.
- Hands-on experience negotiating with manufacturers, FMCG companies, or brand owners, along with the ability to proactively build partnerships with brands.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders effectively.
- A practical, proactive mindset with the willingness to take ownership and work through challenges directly.
- Strong analytical ability is a plus.
