Role Overview

Toast is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help build the Scheduling product within its Team Management Suite for restaurant employers. In this role, you will contribute to software that supports restaurant owners in creating labor plans that balance profitability, staff predictability and flexibility, and guest satisfaction.

What You’ll Do

• Develop, operate, and continuously improve core backend services with a collaborative engineering team.
• Own systems end to end with a strong focus on quality, dependability, and maintainability over the long term.
• Drive work through the full development cycle, including design, estimation, coding, testing, troubleshooting, and deployment, while applying sound practices for operating reliable large-scale systems.
• Deliver code that has a direct effect on Toast’s business growth and daily restaurant operations.
• Work closely with product and design partners to shape both product direction and implementation approach.
• Raise engineering standards through meaningful code reviews and technical discussions.
• Support and mentor other engineers through technical guidance.

What Toast Is Looking For

• At least 5 years of backend development experience using one or more object-oriented languages such as Java, Kotlin, or similar.
• Hands-on experience owning and running production systems.
• Experience solving unclear, high-impact problems and delivering solutions that scale.
• Strong ability and eagerness to learn quickly and apply new knowledge to practical business challenges.
• Interest in taking on demanding work and building systems that operate at very large scale.

Compensation

The base salary range for this role is CAD 125,000 to CAD 175,000. Starting pay depends on skills, experience, and location. Total rewards may also include overtime, bonus or commissions if eligible, equity, and benefits.

Working Model

This position follows a hybrid working approach that combines in-person collaboration with flexibility for individual needs. The role is tied to the Toronto, Ontario location.
