The team

You will join the wider Software Engineering group as part of a smaller squad responsible for developing, supporting, and improving the applications that keep the company operating. The role involves close cooperation with colleagues across the business to solve practical problems and deliver scalable technical solutions.

Role overview

This position is based in Edinburgh and follows a hybrid working arrangement. The standard schedule is Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The salary range is £46,000 to £56,000 per year.

What you will do

• Build and improve core internal systems alongside the Head of Software Engineering.
• Create backend functionality, services, and integrations between systems.
• Contribute to technical architecture discussions and solution design.
• Strengthen and maintain links between internal platforms and tools.
• Take part in regular team check-ins and planning meetings to keep work progressing.
• Produce clear and reliable technical documentation.
• Review code and help uphold high engineering standards.

What you will need

• Strong practical experience with Python, including work in Django or FastAPI.
• A solid background in backend development, API design, and relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, preferably GitLab, and Git-based workflows.
• Confidence in writing, reviewing, and maintaining technical documentation and clean code.
• Working knowledge of dependency management tools such as Poetry.
• The ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
• A proactive, improvement-focused mindset with a drive to refine systems and processes.
