What we are looking for
We’re looking for applicants with strong communication skills, a practical and positive outlook, and a belief that people can change. No formal qualification or specific professional background is required; your life experience is what matters most. Australian Defence Force veterans are encouraged to apply.
Benefits and training
This role offers a competitive public sector package, including a salary that can reach $93,938 with a base pay of $65,373 plus penalty rates and overtime. You’ll also receive annual salary progression, 4 weeks of annual leave, 3 weeks of personal leave, and study leave provisions. An extra week of leave is available after you have worked 10 Sundays.
You will complete 42 days of fully paid full-time training and, once you finish the Certificate III in Correctional Practice (Adult Custodial), your base salary increases. Eligible staff may also receive up to $10,000 in regional relocation assistance for moving to regional Victoria, subject to conditions.
New prison officers may qualify for a sign-on bonus of up to $8,000. This is paid in two instalments: $4,000 after six months of employment and another $4,000 after one year of full-time service, with conditions applying.
