Power Engineer

Role overview

Jacobs is seeking a Power Engineer to join its High Voltage Substation team in Auckland. The role sits within the APAC Energy and Power business and supports work linked to the energy transition, with a strong emphasis on New Zealand transmission and distribution projects.

What you will do

• Support consulting and engineering delivery for transmission and distribution projects across the APAC region, with primary focus on New Zealand.
• Contribute to substation engineering and design activities across multiple power projects.
• Prepare primary and secondary designs for transmission and distribution networks ranging from 22kV to 500kV.
• Work alongside civil, structural, geotechnical, and other technical teams to progress project outcomes.
• Assist with estimating work hours and preparing proposals under supervision.
• Take ownership of small project management tasks when required.
• Help build and maintain relationships with key clients.
• Receive mentoring and technical development within your specialist area.

Technical expectations

• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team under the direction of the Lead Engineer.
• Support primary plant layout and equipment placement, including clearances, maintainability, and operability.
• Read, interpret, and prepare electrical single line diagrams for systems up to 220kV.
• Perform plant, equipment, and conductor rating calculations.
• Handle lighting design and prepare associated reports.
• Develop protection, metering, and control schemes, including protection panel layouts and control room arrangements.
• Use design tools such as MicroStation and AutoCAD, together with strong Excel skills.
• Communicate clearly with internal colleagues and external clients.
