Role overview

This position sits in a locally operated store focused on delivering pharmacy, health, beauty, and everyday convenience support to the surrounding community. The role keeps customer care at the centre of daily work and involves managing the pharmacy while on shift.

Core purpose

The pharmacist is responsible for overseeing pharmacy operations during duty hours, advising customers and healthcare professionals, working to the full scope of practice, dispensing medications, and supporting the upkeep of the dispensary.

Pharmacy and customer service

• Welcome and acknowledge every customer who comes to the pharmacy counter.
• Work in line with all applicable federal, provincial, regulatory, and legal obligations.
• Protect privacy at all times, including confidentiality and consent handling.
• Offer guidance on prescription medicines as well as over-the-counter and behind-the-counter products.
• Use the expanded professional scope where permitted and within personal competence.
• Remain clearly identifiable to customers and the public.
• Check that all dispensed prescriptions are accurate and appropriate.
• Coordinate with other healthcare professionals within the circle of care to support patient care.
• Keep all required records in accordance with legislation, professional standards, and company policy.

Workflow and inventory management

• Maintain controlled access to the dispensary to protect inventory and patient privacy.
• Monitor and update workflow queues each day.
• Review will-call bins routinely, following standard operating procedures.
• Inspect stock to identify and remove expired medications and products.
• Track stock levels and oversee medication orders placed with wholesalers.
• Ensure all documentation and controls required under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and related regulations are completed, including any reporting to Health Canada and other regulators.

Operational responsibilities

• Keep pick-up, entry, counselling, waiting, and work areas organized and aligned with the expected pharmacy image.
• Participate in financial reporting activities when needed.
• Review internal store communications and act on messages posted to the in-store web system.
• Prepare incident reports whenever customer or staff medication-related or privacy-related issues occur.
