Role overview

We are hiring a People Assistant / HR Administrator to support the UK People Team on a temporary maternity cover assignment. This position focuses on day-to-day HR operations, including employee lifecycle administration, HR system maintenance, recruitment support, absence processing, and handling employee questions.

The role works in close partnership with People colleagues, Payroll, Customer Service, hiring managers, and other internal stakeholders to make sure employee information, documents, and HR processes are handled accurately and within required timelines. It is a hands-on support position that calls for excellent accuracy, strong organisation, and the ability to manage confidential data in a busy environment.

This opportunity is best suited to someone with prior HR administration or People support experience who is comfortable working with systems, employee records, and urgent HR requests.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support for HR processes for UK-based employees, keeping records and HR systems current and correct.
  • Handle administration for starters, employee changes, and leavers, including onboarding paperwork, contractual/status updates, payroll-related amendments, offboarding tasks, and exit documentation.
  • Support right-to-work checks, eligibility processes, TUPE onboarding, and internal people documentation, ensuring all records and checks are completed properly.
  • Work in BambooHR and other HR platforms to enter, update, retrieve, and prepare employee information for the People Team and wider business.
  • Coordinate with hiring managers, senior stakeholders, and internal teams on job advertisement requests and recruitment administration tasks.
  • Manage internal absence administration for sickness, bereavement, and other leave types, including return-to-work tracking and payroll updates.
  • Monitor and respond to the UK HR inbox for holiday queries, sickness updates, record changes, document requests, system updates, and general HR support.
  • Assist the wider People Team with administrative tasks such as reference letters, eye test vouchers, employee documents, record changes, and urgent system actions.
  • Escalate complex or sensitive matters to the relevant People Team contact and ensure confidentiality and data protection standards are maintained at all times.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in HR administration, People support, or a similar administrative position.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy when working with employee data.
  • Confidence using HR systems, spreadsheets, shared inboxes, and document handling processes.
  • Strong organisational ability and the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving setting.
  • A people-focused approach and a professional manner when dealing with employee and manager queries.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Confidence following procedures and escalating issues when needed.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, especially spreadsheets, documents, and email.
  • Proactive, supportive attitude toward the wider People Team.
  • Basic understanding of UK HR administration processes.
  • Experience with BambooHR or similar HR platforms is preferred.
