About the role

Accent Group Limited is hiring a full-time Payroll Officer to join its People & Payroll team in Cremorne, Victoria. The business operates more than 900 stores across Australia and New Zealand, supports 34 well-known brands, and runs over 30 online platforms. This position plays a key part in delivering accurate, timely payroll services across a large, fast-moving retail environment.

In this role, you will manage end-to-end payroll processing for a portfolio of brands across monthly and fortnightly cycles. You will also work with internal stakeholders to answer payroll questions, support business changes, and help keep payroll operations running smoothly for retail and support office teams.

The payroll function covers more than 10,000 team members, so this is a high-volume position that calls for strong organisation, precision, and a proactive attitude.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the accurate and on-time processing of full payroll runs for employees in Australia and New Zealand using the payroll systems.
  • Gather, calculate, and input payroll data to keep records current and correct.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll variances and inconsistencies.
  • Help with payroll calculations such as back pay, leave adjustments, and terminations.
  • Provide responsive and professional service when handling payroll-related questions and concerns from the business.
  • Partner with both internal teams and external contacts on payroll activities.
  • Maintain payroll files and update reports relating to leave, sickness, and overtime.
  • Complete other reasonable duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in a high-volume payroll environment; retail experience is preferred but not essential.
  • Solid understanding of payroll laws and obligations, including awards, superannuation, tax, and leave.
  • Experience using Chris21/iChris and Dayforce Ceridian will be an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of Australian awards, ideally the General Retail Award.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with good interpersonal ability.
  • Comfortable adapting quickly as the business grows and changes.
  • Well organised, with strong time management skills.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and quality control in day-to-day work.
  • Advanced Excel capability and confidence using Microsoft Office.
  • Calm, proactive, and hands-on approach to work.
  • Strong ethical standards and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively.
