About the role
The City of Joondalup is a local government organisation known for delivering high-quality services to its community. The organisation is looking for a capable and motivated Payroll Officer to help maintain an accurate and efficient fortnightly payroll operation, with a strong emphasis on compliance and customer support.
What you'll do
In this position, you will work alongside the Senior Payroll Officer to run the City’s fortnightly payroll through Aurion HRIS. The role calls for careful attention to detail, the ability to meet fixed deadlines, and sound judgement when applying Industrial Awards, Enterprise Agreements, ATO requirements and other statutory obligations. You will also contribute to ongoing improvements in payroll systems and processes.
What we're looking for
We are seeking someone with payroll experience and the confidence to handle end-to-end payroll tasks in a busy environment. The successful applicant should be comfortable using HRIS platforms and online systems, have experience with multi-award or multi-agreement payrolls, and be familiar with workers compensation processing. A solid understanding of ATO rules related to salaries and wages, along with the ability to interpret Awards and Agreements, is essential.
Application requirements
Your covering letter must be no longer than two pages and address the selection criteria listed below:
- A tertiary qualification in accounting, human resources or finance, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Hands-on experience using an HRIS and other digital tools to manage payroll from start to finish.
- Proven experience processing end-to-end payroll across multiple awards or agreements.
- Experience handling workers compensation claims.
- Working knowledge of ATO requirements as they apply to salary and wage payments.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret Awards and Agreements.
Additional information
Employment is offered on a full-time permanent basis. The salary range is $90,507 to $96,119 per annum, plus up to 15% superannuation where conditions apply. The role reference is 26-075.
Appointment depends on the provision of a satisfactory National Police Certificate dated within the last three months. Applicants should also be aware that all employees and prospective employees must declare any secondary employment and private activities so potential conflicts of interest can be managed appropriately.
The City of Joondalup values diversity and inclusion and is an equal opportunity employer. Applications are encouraged from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with disability, and people of all ages, sexualities and genders.
If selected, note that canvassing of elected members will disqualify an applicant. For further information, the contact person is Gail Rose, Acting Manager Human Resources, on 9400 4309. Applications close at 11.55pm on Monday 22 June 2026.
