About Greater Western Water

Greater Western Water is a Victorian government-owned water corporation serving a vital role in fast-growing parts of Australia. Its service area stretches from Melbourne’s CBD to Lancefield in the north and Bacchus Marsh in the west.

Role overview

Greater Western Water is hiring an experienced Payroll Coordinator to join its payroll team. The position is comparable to a Payroll Officer role in the wider corporate market, and the team is looking for someone who can contribute strong payroll expertise to a diverse workplace.

This is a fast-moving payroll environment where accurate and timely pay processing is essential. The role requires confidence handling new hires, employee changes, secondments, leave, terminations, redundancies, overtime, timesheets, allowances, and superannuation, together with a solid grasp of Enterprise Agreements and Australian payroll legislation.

The main workplace is Sunbury, with attendance at Footscray for team days with the wider People, Culture and Safety team as needed. The Footscray office is close to the train station, while the Sunbury office provides staff parking and is near both train and bus transport. Flexible work-from-home arrangements are also available.

The successful applicant should bring at least 3 years of payroll experience, including work with both salaried employees and rostered workforces. The payroll environment is highly manual, so prior manual processing experience is important. The role supports end-to-end payroll operations within the People Services team, with a strong focus on accurate payroll and employee data management throughout the full employee lifecycle, while maintaining compliance in PayGlobal and SuccessFactors.

Key responsibilities

  • Set up new employees and manage termination, redundancy, allowance, deduction, and superannuation processing in line with segregation of duties.
  • Transfer employee master data from SuccessFactors into PayGlobal.
  • Enter supporting payroll information manually into PayGlobal so pay runs can be generated correctly.
  • Support and run the full payroll cycle, ensuring payments are accurate and compliant with superannuation, taxation, and legislative obligations.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders such as Finance, and liaise with external partners, auditors, and industry contacts as needed.
  • Contribute to a cooperative and consultative culture across People Services and the wider PC&S function.

Skills and experience

  • At least 3 years of proven end-to-end payroll experience in a medium-sized organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems, administration, and processing, with preference for PayGlobal.
  • Good understanding of Australian payroll and employment laws, standards, and best practice.
  • Strong numerical ability for managing complex employment-related calculations.
  • Well-developed administrative, organisational, and analytical capability.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team setting.
  • High School Certificate is required.
  • Payroll accreditation is desirable.

Benefits

  • Permanent full-time role.
  • Salary of $89,000 plus superannuation.
  • Flexible arrangement with a mix of on-site work and work from home.
  • Free on-site parking, subject to availability.
  • Gender-neutral parental leave of 16 weeks, available from commencement.
  • Free income protection and salary continuance insurance.
  • Access to corporate health insurance offers from major providers.
  • Wellbeing, prayer, and sensory rooms at the Footscray and Sunbury offices.
  • Nearby shops and cafes at both office locations.
  • Barista coffee machines available on site.

Additional information

Greater Western Water is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace that reflects the communities it serves. The organisation encourages applications from people of all cultural backgrounds, genders, and abilities, and will provide reasonable adjustments where needed.

Applicants should submit a resume and a cover letter of no more than one page, outlining relevant payroll experience. Shortlisting will begin early.

The selected candidate must complete pre-employment checks, including reference checks, medical assessments, a national police check, and confirmation of Australian working rights.

Applications close at 11:59pm on Monday 13 July.
