Role overview
The Payroll Administrator will handle accurate, timely payroll processing across several projects and business divisions. This position suits someone who is detail-focused and comfortable working in a busy environment.
Reporting to the Controller, the role supports payroll administration while aligning with company policies, union rules, employment standards, and regulatory obligations. The position works closely with Operations, Human Resources, and Accounting to support employees and keep payroll functions running smoothly.
What you will do
- Run weekly and bi-weekly payroll for both hourly and salaried staff with accuracy and timeliness.
- Check timesheets, shift rosters, leave records, travel entries, overtime, and payroll coding to confirm correctness and compliance.
- Update payroll files, deductions, benefits, vacation accruals, and required statutory payments.
- Apply employment standards, union agreements, internal policies, and payroll rules consistently.
- Prepare records and documents such as ROEs, T4s, year-end payroll information, and other payroll-related filings.
- Handle payroll questions from employees, supervisors, and outside agencies in a courteous and prompt way.
- Partner with HR and Accounting on onboarding, employee exits, benefits administration, and account reconciliations.
- Assist with payroll reporting, audits, and related process enhancements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts that strengthen payroll efficiency and accuracy.
- Carry out additional related duties as needed.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have formal training in payroll, accounting, business administration, or a similar area, along with hands-on payroll experience.
A PCP designation, or progress toward completing it, will be considered an advantage. Experience in construction, industrial, or unionized settings is preferred.
