Middleweight Interior Designer

Overview

A reputable design practice in Chelmsford is looking for a middleweight interior designer who is enthusiastic, meticulous and confident working across varied sectors. The studio delivers client-led design solutions for hospitality, residential and healthcare projects and places strong value on long-term client relationships.

Package and working pattern

• Based in an office studio environment with a team of around 15 people.
• Permanent full-time role, Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm.
• Annual leave of four weeks, plus public holidays.
• Extra paid time off between Christmas and New Year.
• Access to a company pension plan.
• Salary offered: GBP29,000 to GBP33,000.

Key responsibilities

• Take ownership of interior design work from feasibility and early concept stages through construction and final handover, while also supporting the wider team where needed.
• Create original design ideas and prepare clear presentation content for client discussions.
• Develop detailed technical drawing sets, including plans, elevations, sections and custom joinery information.
• Prepare FF&E schedules, research suitable products and gather quotations from suppliers.
• Work closely with clients, consultants, contractors and vendors to keep projects moving smoothly.
• Visit sites and attend project meetings to track progress and address design-related issues as they arise.
• Oversee snagging and contribute to successful project completion.
• Stay informed on current design trends, materials, industry developments and relevant regulations.

Requirements

• Previous experience in commercial interior design.
• A degree or similar qualification in Interior Design or Interior Architecture.
• A portfolio demonstrating work in hospitality, workplace and/or hotel environments.
• Competence in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe InDesign and Photoshop; knowledge of rendering software would be an advantage.
• Strong ability in design development, space planning and technical detailing.
• Experience presenting ideas to clients and handling stakeholder relationships.
• Solid understanding of FF&E specification, material choices and supplier management.
• Excellent organisation, communication and time management skills.
• A full UK driving licence.
