Role overview
Pacifica Housing is hiring a Maintenance Technician in Nanaimo, British Columbia. This is a regular full-time union role reporting to the Manager of Maintenance under BCGEU. The position supports a long-standing housing organization focused on providing safe, affordable homes and services, with a workplace culture grounded in authenticity, leadership, respect, and social justice.
The role is accountable for completing assigned maintenance work orders on schedule and to the quality standards set by Property Services.
Compensation and schedule
Pay is offered at $30.27 to $32.60 per hour. The work schedule is 7:30am to 6:00pm, Monday through Thursday, for 80 hours bi-weekly. This is a full-time regular position. The posting closing date is July 17, 2026 at 4:00pm.
Key duties
- Carry out a range of maintenance tasks from work orders and an established schedule.
- Perform repairs and upkeep such as plumbing, appliance fixes, drywall repair, painting, and minor electrical work.
- Install and assemble residential items including doors, blinds, and similar fixtures.
- Post notices as directed by the Property Services Coordinator or Assistant Maintenance Manager, including tenancy-end and entry notices in line with the Residential Tenancy Act.
- Clean and restore units during turnover according to organizational specifications.
- Report safety incidents, accidents, or injuries immediately to the Assistant Maintenance Manager or Property Services Coordinator.
- Complete maintenance paperwork such as work orders and mileage claims and submit them as required.
- Maintain respectful and cooperative working relationships with supportive housing staff and tenants.
- Work independently to meet deadlines and finish assigned tasks.
- Update the Assistant Maintenance Manager on completed items, work in progress, and matters that need attention.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements and qualifications
- High school graduation is required.
- A valid Basic First Aid Certificate is required.
- Experience in a maintenance technician role or similar position is required, preferably in non-profit housing.
- Proven experience in building maintenance is needed.
- Hands-on experience using hand tools and power tools is required.
- About 2 years of experience in suite renovations or building maintenance is preferred.
- Practical knowledge of residential maintenance trades, including carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work, is required.
- Ability to use a mobile phone for email, texts, calls, and calendar management is needed.
- Relevant trade abilities are expected, including painting, drywall patching, door hardware repairs, flooring repairs, and carpentry repairs.
- A Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check must be completed before employment begins.
- A valid driver's licence is required, along with access to a dependable vehicle insured with at least $2 million in business-class liability coverage.
- The successful candidate must be available for on-call duty and emergency callouts during off-hours.
- An equivalent mix of education and experience may be accepted.
Additional information
Competition number: 26-041. The role is part of the BCGEU union. The organization requires a successful Vulnerable Sectors Criminal Record Check through the Ministry of Justice, and any offer depends on proof of this check before the start date.
