Role overview
Corlann’s West Region is hiring two permanent, full-time Instructor/Supervisors for Orchard Services in Gort, County Galway. The position focuses on building and developing a day service for adults with intellectual disabilities, while supporting educational, social, vocational, recreational, and personal development outcomes.
The post also includes responsibility for family support, organising social groups and evening activities, and providing one-to-one support in the community when needed. The service model is expanding, so flexibility around hours is important to meet the needs of the people supported.
Key duties
The successful candidates will take on a key worker role and help people supported by the service build connections, interests, and community partnerships. The role involves working with adults with autism and complex needs, and supporting individuals with personal care needs during the day, including mealtime support, hygiene, and other aspects of physical well-being as required by each person.
Reporting line and working relationships
This position reports to the Team Leader, Team Manager, Service Coordinator, or Area Manager. The role works closely with people supported by the service and their families, the multidisciplinary team, frontline staff, and GRETB tutors.
Qualifications and experience
A Level 7 qualification relevant to the health sector is required. Candidates should also have at least one year of experience in intellectual disability services, ideally including day services and the design and delivery of programmes. Experience building links with the community and micro-enterprises would be an advantage.
A full clean manual Irish driver’s licence is essential, and strong spoken and written English is mandatory.
Working pattern and terms
The role is based on 78 hours per fortnight across a five-day roster. Normal working days are Monday to Friday, although weekend work may be required depending on service needs and personal outcomes. Contracted hours may also change between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm across seven days to support programme requirements. The service operates on a Personal Outcome Measures model, so staff must be able to adapt their working hours to maintain quality delivery for each individual.
Annual leave is 22 days per year. The position is permanent, full-time, and pensionable. A probation period of nine months applies from the date of appointment, during which employment may end if the employer considers the appointee unsuitable. The probation period may also be extended at the employer’s discretion.
Pay
Salary is offered under the Department of Health Supervisor/Instructor consolidated scale from €36,291 at the first point to €52,406 per annum across 12 increments.
