Role Overview
Join Edmunds Gastroenterology and contribute to patient care by helping the laboratory produce precise, high-quality tissue preparations. In this role, you will work alongside pathologists and lab professionals to support an efficient, well-organized histology environment.
Key Duties
- Prepare tissue samples and microscope slides so they are ready for diagnostic review.
- Accept, identify, and arrange specimens for gross examination and dissection.
- Carry out routine H&E staining and slide coverslipping, using both manual methods and automated equipment.
- Assist with making reagents and processing tissue samples while working under supervision.
- Perform regular cleaning and basic upkeep of laboratory equipment.
- Enter, maintain, and track samples, records, and lab information in internal systems.
- Help monitor stock levels and keep supplies available for day-to-day lab operations.
- Maintain a clean, sterile, and safety-compliant laboratory space.
- Provide support to technical team members as your responsibilities expand.
- Monitor pending cases and departmental metrics to help workflow stay on track.
- Take on additional duties as assigned; this list is intended as a general summary rather than a complete account of every task.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience in a laboratory or histopathology setting.
- Hands-on experience handling PHI and using a Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- High school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
- Preferred: 3 or more years of experience in histology or laboratory work.
- Preferred: Prior experience assisting pathologists in a clinical environment.
- Preferred: Coursework in science or a related discipline.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This is an active lab-based position that involves standing at a bench for long periods, moving frequently around the laboratory, and using specialized equipment. The role may require lifting light to moderate items, with assistance available for heavier loads. PPE must be worn in a safety-conscious environment.
