Engineer (VTL Operator)

Role Overview

This position is for a CNC Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL) operator engineer based in Kanchipuram, Chennai. The role supports the manufacture of wind turbine gearboxes in a high-precision, heavy engineering environment focused on quality, reliability, and safe production.

Key Responsibilities

• Run the CNC VTL machine across a three-shift schedule.
• Load and unload components according to approved work instructions.
• Complete model changeovers efficiently so production stays on track.
• Carry out self-checks and inspect parts to meet quality standards.
• Work consistently to achieve full productivity targets.
• Fill out the daily maintenance checklist to keep the machine dependable.
• Maintain good 5S standards on the shop floor for order, cleanliness, and efficiency.
• Follow all workplace safety rules and operating procedures without exception.

Required Skills and Knowledge

• Working understanding of CNC turning programming, especially SINUMERIK or FANUC controls.
• Knowledge of cutting tools and the correct cutting parameters for different materials and operations.
• Ability to preset tools and load them accurately into the machine.
• Experience in setting up components and establishing datum points for precise machining.
• Comfort using internal and external micrometers for accurate measurements.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and CMM inspection reports.
• Skill in spotting and correcting basic machining variation during production and inspection.
• Experience in heavy engineering environments, including safe crane handling practices.

Safety and Compliance

• Observe all factory safety rules, lifting procedures, and operational guidelines.
• Use PPE correctly and help reinforce a strong safety mindset on the shop floor.
• Operate cranes, hoists, slings, and lifting fixtures safely while handling heavy parts.
• Follow environmental and regulatory requirements linked to industrial production.

Compensation

The offered pay is INR 3,00,000 to 6,00,000 per year.
