Role overview

Empire Life is seeking a Business Analyst to join its Group Solutions team in a hybrid arrangement based in Kingston or Toronto. The total target compensation for permanent roles is between $95,920 and $144,970, and it includes both base pay and a target bonus. Fixed-term contract and casual positions are not eligible for annual bonus and would receive base salary only.

Key accountabilities

• Work closely with business leaders to accurately capture business requirements.
• Check that delivered solutions meet stakeholder expectations using manual validation methods.
• Apply the company’s Product Delivery Framework and internal delivery best practices.
• Identify gaps and advise stakeholders on possible solution options to resolve business needs.
• Gather requirements using a suitable mix of techniques based on experience and judgment.
• Assess information from multiple inputs, resolve inconsistencies, and break down high-level needs into detailed requirements.
• Partner with subject matter experts to shape the technical direction and weigh usability versus performance trade-offs.
• Support and coach new team members on the Product Delivery Framework.
• As needed, facilitate Scrum ceremonies and lead smaller delivery initiatives.

Requirements and preferred background

• A post-secondary degree or diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• At least 3 to 5+ years of experience in a Business Analyst position.
• Insurance industry exposure is considered an advantage.
• Experience in digital and direct-to-customer markets is also beneficial.
• 2+ years of experience in Scrum-based teams, including writing user stories.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks or projects and prioritize effectively.
• Comfort working independently as well as collaboratively.
• Adaptability in a fast-paced environment that changes frequently.
• Strong relationship-building skills across teams and functions.
• Clear communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with senior stakeholders.
• Willingness to mentor, coach, and train junior team members.
• For roles open across Canada, English language proficiency is required when communicating with customers, advisors, or employees nationwide, unless stated otherwise.
