Role overview
This permanent full-time support role is based in Whakatane and involves a variety of shifts, including day, evening, and sleepover duties. A requirement of the position is availability to work alternate weekends.
About the role
IDEA Services is dedicated to helping people with intellectual disabilities live meaningful, fulfilling lives at home and within their communities. In this role, you will provide overnight support to people with complex needs, focusing on their safety, wellbeing, dignity, and independence. You will follow individual care plans, manage risks appropriately, and deliver calm, compassionate, person-centred care throughout the night. Your presence will help create reassurance, continuity, and a sense of security for each person you support.
What you will bring
- Experience in support work is an advantage, although a caring attitude and positive approach are considered more important.
- Willingness to work a rotating roster, including alternate weekends.
- A composed, steady manner and the confidence to support people with challenging behaviours.
- Comfort and regular use of computers and tablets in day-to-day work.
- Well-developed written and spoken communication skills.
- Good physical fitness, as the job includes providing physical support when required.
- A full New Zealand driver licence.
Benefits and training
The hourly rate is $24.68 to $30.13, depending on relevant qualifications, with opportunities to increase earnings as you complete further training. You will be supported to complete Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4 Certificates in Health and Wellbeing.
