Role overview
The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions is seeking a permanent, full-time Rangers Assistant for its Kalbarri base. The position sits at RNPGA Grade RA1 with a salary range of $54,710 to $60,541 per year, plus district allowance and 12% superannuation.
This role supports the care of Kalbarri National Park and its visitor infrastructure, helping protect biodiversity, maintain facilities, and improve visitor experiences in one of Western Australia’s most iconic park settings.
Kalbarri National Park features the lower reaches of the Murchison River and an 80-kilometre gorge carved through red and white banded sandstone, with well-known attractions such as Nature’s Window, The Loop, Z-Bend, Hawks Head, Ross Graham Lookout, and Meanarra Hill.
Key duties
- Support upkeep and servicing of park assets, visitor facilities, and related infrastructure across the Kalbarri work centre area.
- Assist with visitor management, park and visitor services projects, interpretive activities, fire-related duties, weed control, feral animal management, and conservation work as directed.
- Help with the planning and delivery of new recreational facilities.
- Carry out works in line with departmental policies, guidelines, and management plans.
Selection criteria
- Ability to carry out manual tasks linked to cleaning, servicing, and maintaining visitor facilities such as toilets, car parks, trails, and recreation areas, while communicating effectively with the public.
- Experience or capability in basic outdoor construction and maintenance tasks, including weed control, pruning, and the use of hand tools, power tools, 4WD vehicles, and small engines.
- Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements, including task risk assessment, correct use of PPE, and safe handling of chemicals.
- Current Western Australian C-class driver’s licence, or the ability to obtain one within a reasonable timeframe.
