About the organisation
Christchurch City Council’s procurement function acts as a shared service for teams across the organisation. It uses a centre-led approach to promote strong procurement standards across the full lifecycle, from identifying business needs through to supplier and contract management. The team helps oversee, support, and improve procurement activity across a broad range of Council needs.
About the role
The Council is seeking a Procurement Support Officer to join its procurement team. This role suits someone at an early stage in their procurement career who enjoys a busy, varied environment where priorities can shift quickly from day to day.
You will work closely with a wide range of stakeholders, so the ability to build relationships and communicate clearly will be important. The role also includes supporting the Head of Procurement with coordination, administration, and workflow management.
What you will do
- Help ensure work aligns with the Council Procurement Framework.
- Keep supplier and contract master data accurate and up to date.
- Provide coordination, administrative, and workflow support to the Head of Procurement.
- Develop constructive working relationships with business units across the organisation.
- Look for ways to improve processes and support change initiatives.
- Work effectively and calmly in a busy environment that may sometimes be high pressure.
About you
The ideal candidate will bring a strong administrative background, preferably gained in a public sector or regulated setting. Previous PA or executive support experience would be an advantage, as part of the role involves supporting the Head of Procurement.
You should be highly organised, detail-focused, comfortable handling competing priorities, and willing to take initiative. A collaborative, team-oriented approach and a proactive attitude toward learning will help you succeed in this role.
What’s on offer
- Access to training, workshops, and development opportunities.
- Flexible work options, including work from home, adjustable start and finish times, and the option to buy additional leave.
- Exposure to different parts of the organisation through collaboration with wider teams.
- Employee benefits including a range of Council staff perks such as health schemes and retail discounts.
Additional information
This is a full-time permanent position based primarily at 53 Hereford Street, Christchurch.
The salary range is $67,635 to $75,150 per annum, based on a 40-hour week. Starting pay will depend on the successful candidate’s knowledge, skills, and experience, as well as internal pay relativities within the team and across similar roles in the organisation.
The closing date is 3 July 2026, but applications may be reviewed as they are received and interviews may happen before the deadline. The Council may close the vacancy early if required.
The organisation is committed to a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace. Candidates are encouraged to apply even if their experience does not match the job description exactly. Support or adjustments during the recruitment process can be requested by contacting jobs@ccc.govt.nz.
