About the role
Atria Retirement Canada is hiring a Porter to help keep the community clean, safe, and welcoming for residents, visitors, and staff. The role supports day-to-day upkeep of apartments, offices, shared spaces, and outdoor areas, while contributing to a workplace where employees can grow and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
What you’ll do
- Clean offices, apartments, indoor common areas, outdoor shared spaces, and amenity areas so they remain neat and presentable.
- Handle floor care across carpet, tile, and wood surfaces, which may involve vacuuming, extraction, buffing, sealing, and stripping.
- Collect, compact, and dispose of trash and debris from community spaces.
- Keep sidewalks, walkways, stairways, building exteriors, and garden areas in clean and orderly condition.
- Carry out basic maintenance support tasks and respond to simple work requests.
- Mow lawns, trim shrubs, and tend flowers where applicable to the community.
- Report repair needs to management and escalate unsafe conditions to a supervisor without delay.
- Use cleaning supplies, caustic materials, and basic maintenance or landscaping tools safely and correctly.
- Follow all safety directions and complete the training programs required by Atria.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
What is required
- Ability to complete all training programs required by Atria.
- Comfort working with cleaning chemicals and equipment while following safety procedures.
- Enough English comprehension to read and follow safety instructions.
- Ability to do basic arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with 10s and 100s, as well as use currency, weight, volume, and distance measurements.
- Capacity to work in routine situations with limited variation.
- Flexibility to work different shifts and schedules as needed.
- Ability to use basic hand tools and light power tools such as shovels, rakes, blowers, mowers, drills, saws, sanders, buffers, vacuum extractors, and similar equipment.
