About the Role
Purolator is hiring an Owner Operator Courier based in Nanaimo, British Columbia. The role involves using your own vehicle to serve the Qualicum Beach to Fanny Bay corridor. The route averages about 76 stops per day and covers roughly 301 km daily.
This position is based out of the Nanaimo depot and involves work on the road as well as in a warehouse setting.
Vehicle and Driver Requirements
The role requires a cube van from 2021 or newer, or a 1-ton cube van/equivalent van of the same minimum age. A valid Class 5 driver’s licence must be held at all times, along with a clean driving record with no more than 4 demerit points. The vehicle must be owned and maintained by the operator and kept to a high standard of appearance and performance.
Job Duties
- Collect and deliver customer shipments.
- Operate from the Nanaimo depot.
- Meet service standards consistently and reliably.
- Load and unload the vehicle independently.
- Handle additional pickups and deliveries as needed.
- Complete all required paperwork accurately and submit it daily.
- Maintain strong working relationships with internal teams and external customers.
- Arrange a relief driver to cover absences.
- Carry out other tasks as assigned.
Key Requirements
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence is mandatory.
- No more than 4 demerit points on the driving abstract.
- Required insurance coverage and all other licences needed by law and by Purolator standards.
- Current WCB registration and coverage for both the owner operator and the relief driver.
- Ability to handle pickups and deliveries across the full route area or as needed.
- Completion of a criminal background check.
- Dangerous Goods Handling Certificate is required.
- Membership in Teamsters Canada must be maintained.
- Must be able to meet Purolator’s operational and performance standards.
Language Requirement
English fluency is necessary because the role requires frequent communication with a range of stakeholders in English.
Work Environment
The work is carried out on the road and in a warehouse environment.
