Role overview
An opportunity has opened up to join a growing Neurodevelopmental (ND) Service as an administrator on a fixed-term basis. The post supports a service that works with children, young people, and their families, helping ensure day-to-day activity runs smoothly while the team continues to develop.
Working alongside the Operational Lead and Team Manager, you will deliver reliable administrative support, help coordinate service activity, and contribute to improvements as the service evolves.
Key duties
You will be the first point of contact for families and will handle enquiries in a calm, respectful, and compassionate way, including calls from people who may be upset, worried, or confused. The role also involves recognising when safeguarding or child protection concerns may need attention and responding appropriately.
Administrative tasks will include maintaining accurate records, updating data systems, typing reports, managing email correspondence, and organising day-to-day service activity. You will also support ND triage meetings by preparing agendas, distributing papers, and taking minutes.
In addition, you may provide day-to-day guidance to other administrative colleagues, help with training and development, and offer cover for other admin roles when needed. When clinical staff are unavailable, you may need to use sound judgement to manage urgent or sensitive enquiries and liaise with families and professionals.
Working environment
Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is a large NHS organisation serving a population of 650,000 and employing more than 16,000 staff. The organisation promotes flexible working, wellbeing, professional development, and career progression through training, qualifications, and management development pathways.
The Health Board also supports a smoke-free environment across all sites.
Additional information and conditions
This appointment is fixed term until 31 March 2027, to meet service requirements. The post may also be withdrawn if it is filled through internal redeployment.
The Band 3 salary scale will be updated in line with the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2026/2027 and is due to be implemented in August 2026, backdated to 1 April 2026 where applicable.
Candidates from all protected characteristic groups are encouraged to apply, including disabled and neurodiverse applicants and members of the Armed Forces Community. Applications may be submitted in Welsh, and Welsh-language applications will be treated no less favourably than English-language applications.
Reasonable adjustments can be discussed directly with the recruiting manager named in the advert. There is no need to disclose personal or medical details unless you wish to; support needs can simply be described so appropriate arrangements can be made. If you require documents in larger print or another format such as braille, you can contact the recruiting manager or the recruitment team on 01495 745805 option 3 or email abb.vacancyrequests@wales.nhs.uk.
If shortlisted, you will be contacted using the email address provided in your application, so it should be checked regularly. Any conditional offer and information pack will also be sent by email. The organisation may close the vacancy early, so prompt applications are recommended.
Flexible working is supported. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable, and Welsh and English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
