Role overview
ConTecH - Conveyor Technology is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for its Campbellfield, VIC 3061 site in the Greater Melbourne Area. This is a full-time, on-site position with a focus on designing custom conveyor systems and material handling solutions for individual customer needs. Each assignment is different, so the role offers varied mechanical engineering work rather than standard product design.
You will be involved across the full project lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through manufacturing, installation, and commissioning. The position suits someone who enjoys practical engineering, collaborative problem-solving, and seeing their designs translated into real equipment and real-world operation.
Key responsibilities
- Develop bespoke conveyor systems and material handling equipment to match customer specifications.
- Produce 2D/3D CAD models, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and general arrangement layouts.
- Compile BOMs and maintain engineering records and project documentation.
- Coordinate with customers, sales, project managers, and workshop teams to arrive at workable and cost-efficient solutions.
- Support component selection, design refinements, and broader engineering tasks.
- Provide technical input to manufacturing and installation teams.
- Join site visits, take measurements, and assist with commissioning when needed.
- Track drawing updates and control revisions throughout the project.
- Contribute ideas toward product improvement and new development work.
- Be prepared to work extra hours when project timelines require it.
Candidate profile
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a closely related field is required.
- Experience with conveyor systems, material handling equipment, industrial machinery, or mechanical design will be viewed favourably.
- Hands-on ability with Inventor, AutoCAD, or comparable CAD tools is expected.
- You should have strong analytical thinking and a sharp eye for detail.
- Clear communication and the ability to work well in a team are important.
- A positive mindset, reliable work habits, and a willingness to learn are essential.
- Flexibility to extend working hours when deadlines demand it is required.
