Role overview
This position supports day-to-day airside activities to help keep airport operations safe, coordinated, and efficient. The role is centered on routine operational support, oversight of airside movement, assistance with ground support equipment, and adherence to safety and compliance requirements.
Core responsibilities
- Support the coordination of aircraft movements to and from gates, taxiways, and runways while following air traffic control directions.
- Track aircraft positions, stay in close communication with pilots and ground teams, and help address operational issues quickly.
- Assist in managing ground support equipment by helping organize regular maintenance and confirming equipment availability.
- Help ensure the readiness of equipment such as tugs, baggage carts, and refuelling vehicles so aircraft operations can continue smoothly.
- Contribute to safety compliance by supporting audits, helping apply safety procedures, and assisting in staff awareness or training on safety practices.
- Monitor airside activity for potential hazards and support prompt corrective action when issues are identified.
- Assist with emergency preparedness by helping plan response actions, participating in drills, and supporting communication with emergency services.
- Help manage evacuation-related procedures and provide assistance to impacted individuals during emergencies.
- Support runway and taxiway upkeep by helping arrange inspections, coordinate repairs, and remove debris or other hazards.
- Work with maintenance teams to help ensure surface conditions meet required safety standards.
Stakeholders
The role interacts with internal teams such as the Duty Manager - Airside Operations, Air Traffic Control, ground handling teams, terminal operations, facilities, airport security, maintenance and engineering, customer service, IT, safety and compliance, and marketing and communications. External coordination may include airlines, regulatory authorities such as FAA and ICAO, ground handling service providers, local emergency services, passengers, cargo operators, fuel suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
Technical competencies
Key areas linked to this role include air traffic control, aircraft movement management, airside ground handling, airside safety inspection, data analysis and interpretation, ground support equipment management, incident management, risk management, and runway and taxiway maintenance.
Qualifications and experience
A bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related discipline is required. The role calls for 2 to 3 years of experience in airside or ground operations, including supervisory responsibilities.
