Rainforest Builder is a forest restoration company working across Africa with the goal of bringing one million hectares of degraded land back to natural tropical forest. The organization brings together internationally recognized scientists and foresters in a single operating model focused on large-scale tropical forest restoration.

Its work is centered on restoring some of the most heavily degraded rainforest areas in Africa’s Upper Guinean Forest. The company currently runs two projects there and is building a strong pipeline for expansion. Each project covers more than 100,000 hectares, is designed for a long-term horizon of 71+ years, and includes measures intended to protect permanence well into the future. Rainforest Builder manages the full project lifecycle, from origination and carbon asset development to forestry operations, monitoring, and analytics. By working closely with local communities, the company aims to deliver transparency and high-quality execution across its projects.

Role Summary

The Junior Forester will support the planning, setup, upkeep, protection, and monitoring of forest plantations and natural forest resources. This role contributes to field implementation, data gathering, forest inventory work, and environmental compliance, while helping ensure that sustainable forest management practices are followed effectively.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the establishment, maintenance, and day-to-day management of forest plantations.
• Track tree growth, survival rates, and overall plantation condition.
• Oversee planting, replanting, weeding, pruning, thinning, and related silvicultural tasks.
• Make sure field activities are completed in line with approved forestry standards and internal procedures.
• Assist with the implementation of environmental management and sustainability initiatives.
• Help ensure compliance with forestry laws, environmental requirements, and company policies.
• Take part in environmental monitoring and reporting activities.
• Watch for pest attacks, plant diseases, illegal activities, and fire threats within plantations.
• Assist with fire prevention and fire response measures.
• Contribute to forest security and protection efforts.
• Support the supervision of field staff, contractors, and casual laborers.
• Monitor the output and quality of field operations.
• Ensure workers follow health, safety, and environmental rules.
• Participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings.
• Prepare weekly and monthly field reports.
• Keep accurate records of plantation work, labor usage, and operating costs.
• Help prepare operational plans and work schedules.
• Support management with forestry reports and other documentation.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or a related discipline. A master’s degree will be considered an advantage. The role requires 2 to 5 years of progressive experience in forestry operations. Experience using GIS, remote sensing tools, and forestry software is needed, and professional forester licensure or certification would be a plus.
