Job Summary

The General Labour - Packer position is responsible for ensuring that produce is packed into the correct containers, labelled accurately, and prepared to meet food safety, quality, and customer requirements. The role helps keep the supply chain moving by consistently achieving productivity and efficiency goals and supporting smooth day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Check fresh vegetables by sight and by handling them, assess ripeness, size, and classification, and pack them according to customer instructions.
• Examine produce and packaging for foreign material, pests, or other contamination concerns, and escalate issues to the appropriate authority.
• Handle produce carefully to avoid bruising or damage while maintaining the quality, food safety, and packing standards set by the Line Leader and Supervisors.
• Stay in regular contact with the Production Supervisor and report quality concerns, product damage, or shortages of produce and packaging.
• Carry out cleaning and sanitizing of food-contact surfaces and equipment in the production area, keep the workspace clean throughout the shift, and report equipment damage or mechanical problems to authorized personnel.
• Follow SOPs, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety requirements, health and safety rules, and all company procedures so standards are consistently met.
• Complete any other core duties assigned by the company.

Requirements

• Secondary school completion or an equivalent qualification is preferred.
• No prior experience is necessary, although familiarity with packhouse operations is an advantage.
• Awareness of Good Manufacturing Practices, health and safety practices, and food safety standards is preferred.
• Must be self-driven and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Should be able to perform well in a fast-moving environment and show strong attention to detail.

Working Conditions

• Working hours may change based on business requirements, so flexibility is expected.
• The role is based in a refrigerated warehouse where temperatures vary; the environment can also be noisy because of packaging equipment and forklift activity.
• The job regularly involves standing, walking, bending, twisting, using the hands to handle or feel product or packaging, and reaching with the arms.
• Must be able to regularly lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
