Descrição da vaga

Overview

This permanent full-time position is based at Manukau District Court in South Auckland and supports scheduling across the Manukau, Papakura, and Pukekohe District Courts. The role suits someone who enjoys working in a busy environment, bringing structure to complex workflows, and helping ensure court users receive timely access to justice.

As a scheduler, you will play a central part in the day-to-day running of court activity. The role involves coordinating hearings, balancing court capacity, and working with a broad range of stakeholders to keep proceedings moving efficiently.

Why the role matters

Courts support victims, defendants, families, lawyers, Police, and the Judiciary every day. The scheduling function is a critical behind-the-scenes part of that service, helping hearings run smoothly, on time, and with the best use of available resources.

Responsibilities

  • Apply a steady and consistent approach to case scheduling across the JSA.
  • Set hearing priorities in line with Ministry of Justice focus areas.
  • Contribute to reporting on scheduling performance and related priorities.
  • Make sure the right mix and volume of work is scheduled appropriately.
  • Improve courtroom utilisation and the allocation of judicial resources.
  • Encourage consistent scheduling practices and effective use of technology.
  • Keep current with each court’s facilities and any scheduling constraints or considerations.
  • Develop productive working relationships with the Judiciary, registry teams, and stakeholders across multiple courts.

Skills and experience

To be effective in this role, you should bring strong organisation, sound judgement, and the confidence to solve problems in a high-pressure setting. You will need to communicate clearly, build trust with a wide range of people, and work comfortably with data, systems, and technology. A proactive mindset and a willingness to improve processes are important, along with the ability to collaborate, influence others, and remain calm when priorities shift. Knowledge of court processes is helpful, though not mandatory.

What is on offer

  • A meaningful position where your work supports access to justice.
  • A supportive team environment with scope to build specialist expertise.
  • Close exposure to the Judiciary and leaders in the justice sector.
  • A varied and fast-moving role where every day brings different challenges.

About the organisation

Te Tāhū o te Ture, the Ministry of Justice, is focused on strengthening public trust in the law of Aotearoa New Zealand. The organisation values inclusion and welcomes people of all gender identities, ages, ethnicities, sexual orientations, disabilities, and religions.

Benefits

  • Flexible working hours where operationally possible.
  • Access to an online professional development portal.
  • Participation in a range of inclusive and proactive networks.

Salary

The pay band for this role is NZD 67,066 to NZD 90,008 per year. The final offer will depend on skills and experience.
