Role overview
This retail role at Bray is focused on delivering a strong customer experience through a welcoming, informed, and service-led approach. You will support the Shop Manager and wider team in keeping the store running smoothly, maintaining high standards throughout the day, handling bet acceptance and payouts, and helping with both daily operations and customer engagement.
The position also includes opening and closing duties, and from time to time you may be expected to take responsibility for running the shop operations in the absence of senior team members.
What you will do
- Support the Shop Manager and Assistant Manager with the everyday operation of the shop.
- Take charge of store operations when the Shop Manager or Assistant Manager is unavailable.
- Carry out opening and closing procedures.
- Lead and support the shop team as needed.
- Follow cash-handling processes accurately.
- Provide excellent service with a friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable approach.
- Process customer bets correctly and efficiently across different channels, including betting terminals and in-shop EPOS transactions.
- Represent the brand positively and help customers engage with digital and multi-channel products.
- Maintain a calm, effective approach in a busy and pressurised retail setting.
- Keep the shop clean, well presented, and aligned with required standards.
- Follow all safety, compliance, and operational procedures at all times.
- Support a strong team culture and contribute to social responsibility requirements.
- Introduce customers to available in-shop and online products and services.
- Use training and on-the-job support to continue building skills and progressing within the business.
- Occasionally step into shop management duties, creating opportunities for further development.
What we are looking for
- Strong customer service focus.
- Honesty, trustworthiness, and integrity.
- Flexibility to work across a business that operates seven days a week.
- Adaptability in a retail shop environment.
- Good attention to detail and solid numeracy ability.
- A proactive, energetic team player who can also work independently.
- Interest in sport and sporting events, with confidence in building rapport with customers.
- Ambition and drive to grow within the company.
- Strong communication skills.
- Creative problem-solving ability.
- Good organisation, reliability, and dependability.
- Confident cash-handling experience.
- Retail or industry experience is helpful, though not required, because full training is provided.
