About the Organisation
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) works to support people affected by conflict and disaster by helping rebuild health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and agency. Role Summary
The Communications Officer will report to the Communications and Advocacy Coordinator and work closely with program teams to shape, plan, and deliver communications outputs. The role focuses on creating and implementing multimedia and communications materials for country program priorities, with particular attention to communication needs for new and emergency projects. The position will contribute to both external and internal communication efforts, media relations, content gathering such as basic photography and videography, simple graphic design, material development, and vendor coordination. It will also support newsletters, social media, and other content across communication channels.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, refine, and share a range of written content, including web copy, press statements, marketing collateral, and other public-facing materials.
- Interview clients, gather success stories, and capture multimedia coverage during project events for use in reports and audience-facing communication.
- Prepare and circulate regular project updates, brief notes, and situation reports.
- Produce content for the country quarterly newsletter and other publications.
- Assist in creating communication materials and the associated messaging for different initiatives.
- Work with vendors and internal staff on the production and distribution of visibility and communications materials.
- Build and maintain regular contact with media professionals through meetings and interviews.
- Strengthen and sustain relationships with journalists across different media outlets.
- Update and manage a media outlet database and the IRC mailing list.
- Handle additional duties assigned by the Communications and Advocacy Coordinator.
Requirements
- A degree in Communications, Marketing and Public Relations, Mass Communications, International Relations, or a closely related discipline.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in communications, marketing, media, journalism, advocacy, or a similar external relations environment.
- Strong familiarity with media settings and working knowledge of multimedia, web, and digital tools.
- Solid writing, editing, social media management, and photography skills.
