Role summary

The Business Risk & Controls Data Analyst supports the First Line of Defense risk management team by turning data into actionable insights, strengthening reporting quality, and helping improve governance through dashboards, analytics, and recurring reports. The position works closely with Business Risk Controls Officers, control testing teams, and other stakeholders to improve risk visibility, support Risk and Control Self-Assessment processes, and maintain the accuracy and integrity of key risk data.

Key duties

  • Work with Business Risk Control Officers to deliver reporting and analysis used in Risk and Control Self-Assessments.
  • Support the Control Testing Manager by producing data outputs and reports for control testing work.
  • Review exception reports to spot data quality problems and help escalate and resolve issues that affect reporting or control effectiveness.
  • Create, update, and manage departmental dashboards, scorecards, Key Risk Indicators, and recurring reports.
  • Verify that reporting data remains accurate, complete, and consistent.
  • Examine structured and semi-structured data to support risk detection, better decisions, and operational improvements.
  • Keep an organized inventory of reporting tools, data sources, and supporting control documentation for governance purposes.
  • Help with regulatory reviews and internal or external audits by supplying analytics, reports, and evidence.
  • Build executive-level presentation materials, reporting packs, and visual summaries for governance forums.
  • Document reporting methods, assumptions, and source data to support audit readiness and review processes.
  • Coordinate with business lines, risk teams, and other partners to validate source data and keep reporting aligned across groups.
  • Communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders, including business, risk, and support teams.
  • Provide guidance and training to business units on reporting tools, dashboards, and compliance-related workflows.
  • Maintain solid knowledge of products, systems, and processes to support risk management activities effectively.

Required experience and qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in data analysis, business analytics, operations analytics, or a similar analytical function.
  • Background in financial services, banking, risk management, compliance, or audit environments is preferred.
  • Exposure to governance reporting and key risk or key performance indicators.
  • Understanding of regulatory expectations and audit processes.
  • Ability to work with large datasets using structured analytical approaches.
  • Intermediate skill in data querying, programming, and analysis tools such as Microsoft SQL, Python, C#, or similar technologies.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills along with working knowledge of reporting and visualization platforms.
  • Experience using business intelligence or visualization tools such as Power BI and Excel.
  • Ability to translate analysis into clear narratives and executive-ready visuals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparing materials for leadership audiences.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage several analytical requests at once.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, execution-driven environment while maintaining accuracy and rigor.
  • Able to prioritize multiple assignments effectively in a busy environment.

Education

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a quantitative subject such as Finance, Mathematics, Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related area is preferred. A comparable mix of education and relevant analytical experience may also be accepted.
