About the company
Empire Capital Limited is a specialist property and asset management business headquartered in Mayfair, London. Operating since 2007, the firm has helped private and institutional investors acquire, develop, and oversee property portfolios ranging from individual homes to major commercial and residential schemes. By working alongside established partners in banking, accountancy, and legal services, the company aims to deliver a high level of service and strong returns for both UK and overseas investors.
About the role
The business is looking for a detail-focused Assistant Accountant who can take a proactive approach in supporting the Head of Accounts across a wide range of tasks for several client entities. This is a practical, hands-on position suited to someone who can juggle competing priorities, deal directly with external stakeholders, and keep complex administrative work progressing to completion. The role involves close interaction with senior leadership and requires a person who can work independently with minimal supervision.
Key responsibilities
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, process invoices, and complete bank reconciliations across multiple entities.
- Maintain financial records, management accounts, and supporting schedules in line with FRS 102.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns, including situations involving serviced accommodation and multi-entity structures.
- Support intercompany reconciliations and assist with group-level accounting across portfolio companies.
- Deal with HMRC on PAYE, VAT, and compliance registrations, including drafting and chasing formal letters.
- Help with anti-money laundering administration, including support for HMRC AMLS registration duties.
- Assist with corporate administration tasks such as Companies House filings, statutory record upkeep, and liaison with solicitors and company secretaries.
- Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and legal advisers on client matters.
- Support business banking relationships by helping with account opening applications, preparing documentation, and speaking with relationship managers.
- Administer payroll and auto-enrolment compliance, including NEST, for client entities.
- Update and maintain accounting software such as QuickBooks Online or similar, including chart of accounts setup and structure.
- Draft polished business correspondence, including complaint letters, dispute communications, and regulatory submissions.
- Assist with procurement and supplier management, including reviewing contracts and handling onboarding paperwork.
- Provide general accounts and office administration support to the Head of Accounts and directors.
Essential requirements
- Strong bookkeeping and accounting experience, ideally gained in professional services, property, or a multi-entity environment.
- Good knowledge of VAT, including partial exemption, property-related VAT, and intercompany transactions.
- Hands-on experience dealing with HMRC correspondence and awareness of PAYE, corporation tax, and wider compliance obligations.
- Confident using cloud accounting tools, with QuickBooks Online preferred and Xero also acceptable.
- Excellent written English skills, with the ability to produce clear professional letters and emails with little editing.
- Strong attention to detail and a structured, evidence-led approach to solving problems.
- Ability to manage several active matters at once and see each one through to completion.
- Professional discretion when working with confidential client and financial information.
Desirable experience
- Background in real estate, property management, or asset management.
- Understanding of corporate governance, Companies House procedures, and statutory submissions.
- Exposure to AML or compliance processes in a regulated or financial services setting.
- Part-qualified or studying toward AAT, ACCA, or CIMA.
- Experience supporting business bank account applications or working with commercial banking teams.
