About the role

The Senior Site Engineer will take ownership of day-to-day site execution, helping ensure construction works are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the required standards of quality and safety. Reporting to the Project Manager, this person will convert design intent into practical site actions and keep the work progressing in line with drawings, specifications, and programme requirements.

This position involves close coordination with subcontractors, trades, site personnel, clients, consultants, and regulatory bodies. The role calls for a hands-on, proactive engineer who can solve issues quickly, keep stakeholders informed, and maintain a smooth and efficient workflow across the project.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the daily running of the site so that activities remain aligned with the project plan, schedule, and technical requirements.
  • Track progress, provide clear updates to the Project Manager, and keep accurate site records and diary entries.
  • Supervise and coordinate subcontractors and trades to support productive workflows and consistent workmanship.
  • Carry out routine inspections to confirm that construction output matches drawings, specifications, and quality expectations.
  • Support health, safety, and welfare systems through inductions, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.
  • Carry out setting-out work using robotic total stations, GPS, and other surveying equipment to ensure accurate site layout.
  • Oversee plant, labour, and materials, including day-work tracking and coordination with suppliers for timely deliveries.
  • Identify and resolve technical site issues, interpret drawings, and communicate design or construction changes to the wider team.
  • Serve as the main on-site contact for contractors, suppliers, inspectors, and authorities, ensuring clear communication at all times.
  • Report progress, resource needs, and any schedule or budget concerns to senior engineers or management.
  • Work with clients and consultants to address queries while maintaining high standards of quality and professionalism.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience in planning and scheduling within the construction sector.
  • Experience working on medium to large construction projects.
  • Working knowledge of Irish construction regulations, standards, and common industry practices.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods and building regulations.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills with the ability to work to deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for dealing with teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability for resolving site issues.
  • Competence with construction tools and software such as AutoCAD and MS Project.
  • Ability to stay effective under pressure while maintaining a close eye on detail.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to build positive working relationships.
  • Adaptability to succeed in a fast-paced construction environment.

Benefits

  • 21 days of annual leave, with extra days added based on length of service.
  • Company pension scheme.
  • Company vehicle for site travel.
  • Laptop and mobile phone provided.
  • Company sick pay scheme.
  • Statutory and enhanced maternity and paternity pay.
  • Wedding leave.
  • Cycle to Work Scheme.
  • Access to training and development, including CPD and instructor training.
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) offering confidential support.
  • Regular company social events and wellbeing initiatives.
