Mechanical Design Engineer

Role overview

Liebherr is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to the development of large-scale container crane solutions used in global trade. This position offers the chance to work on technically demanding projects from early concept all the way through delivery, with real ownership and visibility across the full engineering lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Create and refine engineering solutions for Liebherr container crane products and related components.
• Prepare accurate 3D models, production drawings, and bills of materials for manufacture and assembly.
• Work with engineering, production, and supply chain teams to keep designs up to date, compliant, and optimized for procurement and fabrication.
• Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to make sure parts and assemblies meet Liebherr’s quality and performance expectations.
• Support the design, development, and rollout of advanced production equipment so the business stays aligned with current industry standards.
• Assist with site work, including installation and commissioning, to understand how the designs perform in practice.
• Maintain strong control of design data so models, drawings, and concepts are organized and accessible.
• Develop practical technical documents and procedures that are clear for users and site teams.
• Collaborate with sister companies within the MCC Group to share knowledge, align technical standards, and support a consistent engineering approach.
• Help guide and support other members of the design team.
• Contribute to customer handover activities and training when needed.
• Take part in project travel, including visits to site and commissioning support.
• Carry out additional duties as required by changing project needs.

Required background

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
• At least 3 years of experience in design engineering, preferably in steel fabrication or heavy engineering.
• Strong capability with 3D CAD software and associated engineering tools.
• Track record of delivering strong results in a fast-moving, deadline-focused setting.
• A proactive approach with excellent attention to detail.
• Good communication skills and the ability to build productive relationships with internal teams and external partners.
• Well-organized, dependable, and able to handle several tasks at once.
