GCP Senior Data Engineer

Role overview

HCLTech is seeking a Senior Data Engineer with deep experience on Google Cloud Platform to architect, develop, and fine-tune scalable data pipelines and analytics solutions. The role centers on data migration, modernization of reporting, and delivery of robust datasets for enterprise tools such as Power BI, MicroStrategy, and Looker.

Core responsibilities

• Take ownership of discovery and analysis across source systems, including around 35 to 50 tables per domain and historical data extending up to 2 years.
• Design, build, and support scalable data pipelines using Google Cloud services.
• Create and improve data models and curated datasets sized for reporting needs, typically spanning 40 to 100 tables per domain.
• Run both full and incremental data loads while maintaining performance and data accuracy.
• Move older reporting assets from SSRS and SAP BO into Power BI datasets and semantic models.
• Improve the speed and reliability of MicroStrategy cubes and dashboards.
• Tune Power BI workloads, including DAX logic, query folding, and dataset performance.
• Develop datasets that can range from 5 to 100 source tables depending on complexity.
• Contribute curated and validated data sets for a Looker proof of concept.
• Set up and maintain frameworks for data validation, reconciliation, and logging.
• Apply best practices for performance, cost efficiency, security, and scalability on GCP.
• Work closely with architects, BI teams, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Support effort estimation, roadmap discussions, and technical evaluation activities.
• Guide team members technically, review code, and help enforce engineering standards and delivery quality.

Technical expectations

The role calls for hands-on expertise in BigQuery, Dataflow, Composer/Airflow, and Cloud Storage, along with strong ETL and ELT development capability. Strong SQL and Python skills are essential, as is experience with Power BI data modeling, DAX, and performance tuning. Exposure to SSRS and SAP BO migration is important, while familiarity with MicroStrategy and Looker is an advantage. Experience with data warehousing, modeling, and large-scale data processing is also expected.

Leadership and delivery focus

This position also requires mentoring, code review ownership, and active participation in quality control, process compliance, and stakeholder coordination to help ensure successful delivery.
