Role Summary

This 6-month fixed-term Financial Controller position has been created to provide experienced, hands-on finance support while a new finance system is being implemented. The post will help ensure day-to-day finance activities continue smoothly, while the Head of Finance focuses on delivering the system project successfully.

The role is central to maintaining continuity, strengthening controls, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting during a period of change. Working with the wider finance team, the Financial Controller will help keep the finance function effective and stable throughout the transition.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the month-end close process, ensuring the books are closed on time with reliable reporting and analysis.
  • Act as a finance partner to internal teams including Fundraising, Philanthropy, Marketing, and Grants & Impact, offering analysis and practical financial guidance.
  • Produce monthly financial reports and analysis for budget holders, and review the results with them so they can better manage income and expenditure.
  • Support annual budgeting and periodic reforecasting cycles.
  • Help review and refresh finance procedures as needed.
  • Maintain operational stability and continuity across finance during periods of organisational and systems change.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a senior finance position.
  • A relevant professional accounting qualification.
  • Strong background in management reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Advanced Excel capability.
  • Experience in the charity or not-for-profit sector is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics NAV and/or Iplicit would be beneficial.
  • Experience using Salesforce is desirable.
  • A flexible attitude and willingness to take on additional tasks as required.
