EMS/SAR Pilot

Role overview

Helicopters Otago is inviting interest from pilots for EMS/SAR positions based at Taieri and Queenstown. In this role, you would carry out air ambulance and search-and-rescue missions over mountainous, coastal, and remote parts of New Zealand, operating in demanding and varied conditions.

What the job involves

The position follows a 4-days-on, 4-days-off roster. You would work alongside management, paramedics, and other crew members, with a strong focus on safety, sound judgment, and professional conduct at all times.

• Fly as pilot-in-command on air ambulance and rescue operations
• Coordinate closely with management, paramedics, and other team members
• Uphold high standards of safety, professionalism, and decision-making
• Take part in training, development, and other duties as required
• Perform pilot-maintenance on helicopters and related equipment
• Keep facilities and gear maintained to a high standard
• Reside close enough to the base to meet night-dispatch response expectations

Minimum requirements

Applicants should hold a CPL(H) or ATPL(H) with a current Class 1 Medical, have at least 2,000 total helicopter hours, and bring multi-engine experience. An unrestricted night rating is required, along with strong CRM and communication skills. You must also be eligible to live and work in New Zealand.

Preferred background

Experience in NVG operations, an Instrument Rating (Helicopter) / SPIFR, mountain flying, and EMS/SAR work including hoist operations would be viewed very positively. Ratings and experience on BK117, EC145, or H145 helicopters are also advantageous.
