Role overview
This position is centered on running day-to-day IT operations and maintenance across infrastructure, applications, and databases, while also supporting delivery of infrastructure projects. It is a hands-on operational role with responsibility for outcomes that affect daily business continuity, and it involves guiding technical staff and checking the quality of their work.
Minimum qualifications and experience
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering or an equivalent qualification is required.
- Overall experience of 4 to 7 years in IT operations is expected.
Skills and knowledge needed
- Strong understanding of end-user support and management
- Proven background in IT operations management
- Hands-on exposure to system installation, setup, and analysis
- Ability to supervise technical teams and review deliverables
Key responsibilities
- Provide remote hands-and-feet support for servers, storage systems, network devices, and related infrastructure.
- Handle rack, stack, unrack, and decommissioning activities for servers and network equipment.
- Carry out power cycles, hard reboots, and console access tasks when needed.
- Support datacenter moves, adds, and changes.
- Respond to incidents and service requests within agreed service levels.
- Inspect equipment visually for alarms, faults, and environmental concerns.
- Assist during outages by following guided recovery procedures.
- Escalate complex issues to Tier-2 or Tier-3 teams as required.
- Maintain records of hardware movement, inventory, and asset tagging.
- Support audits and compliance-related checks.
- Ensure proper cable management, labeling, and airflow optimization.
- Act as the on-site lead during P1 and P2 incidents or outages.
- Mentor junior hands-and-legs technicians and validate work quality during shifts.
- Serve as the escalation point for technical and procedural concerns.
- Enforce SOP, SLA, and compliance adherence.
- Prepare and submit service delivery reports within timelines.
- Coordinate with OEMs and stakeholders, including gate pass preparation.
- Lead audit activities and ensure closure of open observations.
- Support backup configuration and management activities.
- Work closely with OEMs and relevant stakeholders for operational coordination.
- Lead internal and external datacenter audits.
Working expectations
The role requires the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, strong attention to detail, and clear communication and documentation skills. The position may involve 24x7 shifts, weekend work, and on-call rotations if needed.
Additional information
This is an operational role with direct accountability for service continuity, infrastructure support, and audit readiness. It also includes responsibility for guiding junior technicians, ensuring process compliance, and handling critical incident support in a datacenter environment.
