About the role
Queensland Rail is seeking a full-time Trackworker (Labourer) to join the Central West team, based in Rockhampton. This field-based position supports rail infrastructure maintenance across remote parts of regional Queensland, including the routes between Emerald and Winton, and Emerald and Clermont.
The role involves physically demanding outdoor work, including sleeper replacement and broader track maintenance activities. You’ll be expected to work in variable weather, including very hot conditions, and to travel frequently away from home during rostered shifts.
What the role involves
- Supporting repair and upkeep of railway track infrastructure.
- Carrying out outdoor labour across the region, including emergency response work such as flood repairs.
- Completing tasks safely, efficiently, and in line with operational standards.
Roster and travel
This position requires regular regional travel and a rostered work pattern, which may include a 9-days-on, 5-days-off arrangement. You must be willing and able to meet these travel and scheduling requirements.

- You have recent experience in a manual handling or physically active labouring role.
- You work well in a team and communicate effectively with others.
- You are strongly committed to safe work practices.
- You can travel and work throughout regional Queensland.
- You are available for overtime and weekend work when needed.
Training and development
Queensland Rail provides paid training and ongoing support, including Cert III in Rail Infrastructure. The role also offers development opportunities to gain a First Aid certificate, High Risk Work Licence (DG) and (LF), and a Working Safely at Heights ticket.
Pay and benefits
- Base annual salary starts at $69,000 plus 12.75% superannuation.
- Potential total earnings may reach $85,000 when penalties are included.
- All PPE and tools are supplied.
- Travel time is paid.
- Accommodation is provided when working away, where possible in a self-contained apartment with cooking facilities.
- Meals are included in the working-away allowance.
- Uniforms are provided.
- Annual leave entitlement is 4 weeks.
- Ongoing training is available.
