Role overview
This position is for a senior engineer with deep expertise in AIX, Linux, storage, and cloud system administration. The goal is to keep the client’s infrastructure secure, stable, and high-performing so that critical IT services run smoothly and data remains protected and available.
Core system administration
- Install, configure, and support AIX and Linux operating systems.
- Keep server performance under observation and act quickly when issues arise.
- Investigate faults and restore service with minimal interruption.
- Apply security controls such as firewall rules, access management, patching, and updates.
- Create and maintain automation scripts for repetitive operational work.
Infrastructure and storage
- Administer storage platforms to maintain high availability and strong performance.
- Oversee backup, recovery, archiving, replication, and migration processes to protect data.
- Monitor storage utilization, capacity, and health on an ongoing basis.
- Work with SAN environments, including configuration, administration, LUN masking, zoning, fiber and switch requirements, and storage security practices.
- Support IBM storage and SAN technologies, including SVC, FS7200, FS900, V7000, HP 3PAR, and Brocade switches.
Cloud and virtualization
- Design, deploy, and manage cloud infrastructure and services across platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
- Secure cloud systems and data using appropriate policies and controls.
- Administer Azure virtual machines, networks, and storage while balancing performance and cost.
- Keep Azure services patched and updated as required.
- Support virtualization and LPAR environments, including PowerVM, VIOS, SEA, NPIV, virtual SCSI, and cloning procedures.
Operational support
- Provide L3 support for AIX servers, VIO servers, and related issues.
- Join an on-call roster and help during service disruptions or outages.
- Own problem resolution and help coordinate technical bridge activity during incidents.
- Track customer support cases in the ticketing system and log new incidents or requests in ServiceNow.
- Monitor logs, system activity, and events across Unix and Linux environments.
- Work with vendors and suppliers when hardware replacement is needed.
- Maintain software and hardware inventories and keep supporting documentation current.
Required technical scope
- Administer AIX 7.1 and later, VIOS, PowerHA, GPFS, and PowerVM.
- Handle AIX and Linux patching, firmware checks, and system recovery using mksysb and disaster recovery practices.
- Support RHEL and Ubuntu systems, along with Red Hat Satellite, Ansible, and clustering tools such as Red Hat Cluster and IBM PowerHA.
- Manage IBM Power Systems, pSeries hardware, blade hardware, and VMware vSphere operations.
- Maintain strong awareness of Unix and Linux security requirements.
- Deploy and manage Trend Micro security products such as Apex One, Deep Security, or Workload Security, including agent rollout, policy setup, updates, log review, and threat response.
Experience and qualifications
The role calls for 15 years of experience in Unix system administration. The educational requirement is a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Systems, or an equivalent mix of education and relevant professional experience.
