Smart Shipping Company Ltd is hiring a Quantity Surveyor for its construction and engineering operations in Tema, Greater Accra Region. The role focuses on cost management, contract administration, and commercial oversight for infrastructure work, with particular emphasis on road construction and civil works.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare bills of quantities and cost estimates for roads, bridges, drainage systems, and building-related projects.
• Handle tendering activities, support contractor evaluation and selection, and manage NEC/FIDIC contract processes.
• Monitor project budgets, certify payments, and control changes, variations, and claims during delivery.
• Provide guidance on purchasing aggregates, bitumen, plant, equipment, and other construction materials.
• Review claims, help resolve disputes, and support decisions that protect value for money across the project lifecycle.

Education and experience

A BSc in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a similar discipline is required. The company considers membership of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS) and/or the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) to be an added advantage. Candidates must bring at least 10 years of experience in road construction or heavy civil works.

Technical and professional skills

The position calls for strong command of AutoCAD, CostX, Candy, and Microsoft Excel, along with practical knowledge of contract law, cost control, dispute handling, and commercial project administration.

Personal qualities

The ideal candidate should be highly detail-focused, analytical, ethically sound, and capable of staying effective in demanding, high-pressure environments.
