Programme Coordinator

Overview

The Ministry of Justice in New Zealand is looking for a well-organised, forward-thinking Programme Coordinator to help deliver major justice sector initiatives, including the creation of a new firearms regulator. This 12-month fixed-term position sits at the heart of complex, high-visibility programmes that support stronger regulatory and oversight systems across Aotearoa New Zealand.

What you will do

• Coordinate planning, scheduling, reporting, and day-to-day administration across several programme workstreams.
• Support governance meetings by arranging sessions, preparing agendas, recording minutes, and tracking actions.
• Keep programme records current, including documentation, risk and issue logs, decision registers, and reporting materials.
• Track milestones, dependencies, and deliverables to help keep delivery moving in the right direction.
• Assist with communication and liaison activities involving internal and external stakeholders.
• Work closely with programme and project teams to make sure information is accurate, timely, and easy to access.
• Help maintain a constructive, collaborative team culture focused on successful programme outcomes.

Skills and experience

• Background in coordination, administration, or project support in a programme, project, or public sector setting.
• Strong planning and prioritisation skills with the ability to handle competing deadlines.
• Clear and effective written and verbal communication.
• Experience producing reports, meeting papers, minutes, and related programme documents.
• Confident use of Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
• High attention to detail and a consistent focus on quality.
• Ability to build productive working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
• Awareness of government processes and the public sector would be an advantage.

Salary

The salary range for this role is between NZD 67,066 and NZD 85,567, depending on skills and experience.
