नोकरीचे वर्णन

Role overview

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is seeking a Medical Laboratory Associate Practitioner at Band 4 to join the Microbiology department at The Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport. The role is for 37.5 hours per week, arranged across a 7-day rota and including evening and night shift work.

What you will do

You will assist technical colleagues by carrying out a broad mix of scientific and technical laboratory procedures. The post also involves participation in the department’s out-of-hours rota, and there may be occasions when you are asked to work from other sites.

The work demands careful attention to detail, strong organisation, and a flexible approach.

About the organisation

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is an award-winning NHS employer serving a population of 650,000 and employing more than 16,000 staff. It delivers integrated acute, primary, and community care and offers opportunities to develop across a range of career stages and specialties.

The organisation promotes flexible working, work-life balance, occupational health support, paid mandatory training, in-house learning, recognised qualifications, and structured career pathways, including management development programmes. Its Clinical Futures programme focuses on bringing care closer to home while maintaining high-quality hospital services.

Skills and experience needed

Applicants should bring previous laboratory experience, good IT ability, strong communication skills, and experience using analysers. An organised, adaptable approach and the ability to work well as part of a team are essential. Experience with a networked pathology computer system is desirable.

Qualifications

You should hold a Biomedical Sciences HNC, an IBMS Certificate of Achievement Parts 1 and 2, or an equivalent qualification.

Additional information

Welsh-speaking ability is desirable, though Welsh and English speakers are equally welcome to apply. The Health Board encourages applications from people with protected characteristics, including disabled and neurodiverse candidates, and members of the Armed Forces Community.

Applications may be submitted in Welsh and will be treated equally to applications made in English. Reasonable adjustments can be discussed with the recruiting manager, and there is no need to disclose personal or medical information beyond what is necessary to arrange support for the application or interview process. If you need documents in a larger font or another format such as braille, you can contact the recruiting manager or the recruitment team on 01495 745805 option 3 or by email at abb.vacancyrequests@wales.nhs.uk.

If successful at interview, you will receive your conditional offer and information pack by email. Shortlisted candidates and all recruitment correspondence will be sent to the email address used on the application form, so it should be checked regularly.

This vacancy may close early, and it can also be withdrawn if filled through internal redeployment. The Health Board supports flexible working and operates smoke-free sites. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on ABUHB premises for staff, contractors, patients, or visitors. Support to quit smoking is available through the Help Me Quit Team.

The salary scale for Band 3 has been adjusted as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2026/2027 and will be implemented in August 2026, backdated to 01 April 2026 where applicable.
