Role Overview

The Junior Grower is responsible for overseeing planting, cultivation, and harvesting activities while keeping crops healthy and productive to achieve strong yields. This role plays a key part in greenhouse success by helping ensure produce meets company standards and customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the complete production cycle, including integrated pest management, climate regulation, crop upkeep, labor planning, and work scheduling.
• Work closely with the Director of Growing Operations to plan and carry out growing activities that support production targets.
• Prepare greenhouse areas for new planting cycles and coordinate clean-out activities once a crop is finished.
• Track and fine-tune greenhouse conditions such as humidity, temperature, and moisture to support optimal plant development.
• Use fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides carefully and according to safe handling practices.
• Inspect crops regularly and identify plants that are weak, diseased, or below standard so crop quality is maintained.
• Help design and implement improved cultivation methods, growing techniques, and production strategies for both existing and new crops.
• Document production results, review trends, and use the information to improve growing outcomes over time.
• Explore new technologies and stay current with industry practices that can improve greenhouse operations.
• Follow company requirements related to GMPs, SOPs, hygiene, health and safety, and food safety.
• Escalate any food safety or product quality issues without delay.
• Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in a greenhouse grower role, with a strong preference for tomato and vine crop expertise.
• Ability to calculate and apply plant health products accurately, along with solid knowledge of major plant types, growth patterns, and cultivation needs.
• Hands-on experience with greenhouse equipment and systems such as injectors, electrical conductivity and pH meters, boom systems, and irrigation setups.
• Strong capability to monitor and manage environmental factors including ventilation, lighting, temperature, and humidity to improve yield and plant health.
• Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for complex crop and greenhouse issues.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to coach and guide team members effectively.
• English fluency is required; Spanish is a valuable advantage.
• Working knowledge of MS Office, and experience with Priva software or similar greenhouse management tools is preferred.
• Availability for on-call work and overtime, including regular Saturday shifts, as needed by the production plan.
• Comfort working in greenhouse conditions with changing temperatures and high humidity.
• Physical ability to perform demanding tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, stretching, and standing for long periods.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary for this role is CAD $65,000 to $75,000, depending on experience, skills, and internal equity. The package also includes company-paid benefits, RRSP matching, and paid time off.

Additional Information

This position is part of a greenhouse environment and may require regular Saturday work, overtime, and on-call availability. The work can involve high humidity, variable temperatures, and physically strenuous activity.
