Grounds Worker

About the role

Green by Nature works to protect and improve the green spaces of West Auckland and nearby communities. In partnership with Auckland City Council, the team looks after parks, playgrounds, gardens, public infrastructure, and other public areas to help keep Auckland a great place to live and enjoy.

The Auckland Horticulture team is now seeking a motivated Grounds Worker to help deliver this work.

What you’ll be doing

This role suits a hands-on person who is comfortable turning their hand to a variety of outdoor maintenance tasks. Day to day, the work may include:

• Keeping soft landscaping and hard landscaping areas in good condition
• Carrying out pruning, planting, flax cutting, and general garden upkeep
• Trimming hedges, weed eating, and edging
• Applying herbicides and removing weeds and pest plants by hand

What the employer is looking for

Practical horticulture experience is helpful, but not essential. A strong work ethic and genuine interest in outdoor work may be enough to be a good fit. The role values people who are physically capable, cooperative, and ready to contribute to the team.

Important qualities and requirements include:

• A current full Class 1 driver’s licence, with the ability to drive a manual vehicle
• A good level of physical fitness for a demanding outdoor role
• A team-oriented approach and a positive attitude
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Self-motivation and a strong drive to get the work done
• Confidence using a smartphone and other technology, which is an advantage
