Role Summary

This full-time, on-site position in Doha, Qatar involves hands-on fiber optic work for installation, upgrade, and maintenance projects. The technician will be responsible for preparing, splicing, terminating, and testing fiber optic cables, while also supporting troubleshooting, documentation, and site coordination to help ensure smooth project execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare fiber cables for installation, jointing, and termination work.
• Carry out fusion splicing and complete fiber terminations to required standards.
• Test fiber links using OTDR and power meter equipment to confirm performance and signal quality.
• Review and interpret network drawings, construction documents, cable schedules, and site layouts.
• Identify fiber faults, troubleshoot issues, and complete repair work as needed.
• Label fiber routes accurately and maintain clear job records and reports.
• Work in coordination with engineers, supervisors, and other field personnel to support project timelines.
• Follow company procedures, project requirements, and all safety rules while working on site.

Requirements

• Practical experience in fiber optic installation, splicing, termination, and related cabling work.
• Background in structured cabling for telecom or data network environments.
• Working knowledge of electrical basics and safe practices in low-voltage environments.
• Ability to use fiber tools and hand tools such as fusion splicers, cleavers, OTDR units, and power meters.
• Prior exposure to telecom, network infrastructure, or fiber maintenance work is preferred.
• Capability to understand technical drawings, cable routes, and network layouts.
• Strong attention to safety, quality, and compliance with standards.
• Good communication skills and the ability to operate effectively in a supervised field setting.
• Comfort working outdoors and on construction sites, including flexible working hours when necessary.
• A technical diploma or certification in telecommunications, electrical studies, or a related area is beneficial.
