Role Summary

An experienced Deputy Project Director is required in Perth to guide the successful delivery of a complex, multi-stream program involving integrated gas infrastructure and utility-scale battery energy storage systems in Western Australia. This senior role focuses on strategic oversight, commercial control, executive-level stakeholder management, governance, resource coordination, risk management, and delivery of business outcomes.

Key Duties

• Serve as the main point of contact between Samsung C&T executive leadership, steering committees, and partner organisations.
• Shape and monitor the overall delivery approach and procurement direction, acting as the central link between senior leaders and project teams.
• Oversee the commercial structure with the client, partners, and delivery organisations while protecting financial interests and risk limits.
• Lead project steering forums and reporting processes, including allocation of resources and management of dependencies across workstreams.
• Act as the primary escalation contact for project matters and drive major approvals and strategic external relationships.
• Build, mentor, and manage project managers, functional managers, and discipline leaders to create a high-performing and accountable team.
• Set clear accountabilities and ensure the right team structure is in place for delivery.
• Own project budgets, track expenditure, maintain financial controls, and prepare forecast and financial reporting for leadership.
• Identify and reduce delivery risks while ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, organisational, OHSE, and quality requirements.
• Promote strong safety leadership, commercial discipline, and alignment with Environmental, Social, and Governance commitments.
• Improve delivery methods through best-practice adoption, continuous improvement, and the use of modern tools, systems, and technologies.
• Support successful project outcomes that leave a positive and lasting impact on local communities.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate brings deep leadership experience in heavy infrastructure, resources, or energy projects, along with the confidence to lead large cross-functional teams and communicate effectively at executive level. You should combine strategic thinking with attention to detail, strong commercial judgement, and a proven ability to manage complex project environments.

Requirements

• At least 20 years of experience in heavy infrastructure, resources, or energy sectors, including a minimum of 5 years as a Project Director, Program Director, or General Manager on major assets or builds.
• Demonstrated ability to lead decisively and inspire confidence across diverse teams.
• Strong strategic thinking with the ability to balance high-level direction and detailed execution.
• Solid knowledge of project management methods, including scheduling, resource planning, scope control, and change control.
• Proven experience managing multi-million-dollar budgets, forecasting costs, tracking contingency, and improving profitability and resource efficiency.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with experience leading multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors.
• Strong problem-solving ability and a proactive approach to identifying issues early and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
• In-depth understanding of construction management principles, industry practices, and industrial relations.
• Ability to work under pressure and juggle multiple priorities.
• Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
• Track record of delivering complex construction projects, ideally in gas, BESS, or renewable energy.
• Knowledge of Western Australia’s energy market and delivery landscape is preferred but not essential.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Commerce, Law, or Construction Management from a recognised university.
