Overview

Optum is seeking a Data Analyst to help improve the health care experience by supporting work that strengthens care quality, removes barriers, and contributes to more effective and equitable health outcomes. In this role, you will help identify possible fraud, waste, and abuse patterns, support compliance efforts, and take part in investigative work that affects millions of people.

This position offers remote flexibility for candidates located anywhere within the United States. However, employees hired in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area must report to the office at least four days per week. All remote employees must follow UnitedHealth Group’s telecommuter policy.

What you will do

  • Carry out data analysis for the investigations team, including extracts, summaries, random samples, and other special assignments.
  • Prepare healthcare claims data to support investigative needs and partner with investigation teams to better understand dataset content.
  • Create and apply company-wide standards, procedures, and best practices that support compliance with applicable laws and contractual requirements.
  • Assist in gathering data for Special Investigations Unit activities and prepare recurring regulatory as well as executive-level reports.
  • Develop, publish, and distribute scheduled and ad hoc reports for clients and operations covering product, process, and technology performance.
  • Review and interpret data to uncover trends, patterns, and business opportunities for both the organization and its clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a data analyst in a healthcare claims environment or related projects.
  • At least 1 year of experience using VBA (Visual Basic for Applications).
  • At least 1 year of experience working with SAS and/or SAS EG.
  • At least 1 year of experience using data modeling tools, spreadsheets, and information-gathering tools.
  • Strong ability to explain complex information clearly over phone and email to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including clients, customers, and executives.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, macros, lists, and statistical functions.
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office tools such as Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Preferred: industry certifications such as CFE, AHFI, or CPC.
  • Preferred: experience in government, legal, health care, managed care, or health insurance settings with a regulatory, privacy, or compliance focus.
  • Preferred: ability to work independently and research regulations.
  • Preferred: SQL experience.

Compensation for this role is based on several factors, including local labor market conditions, education, work history, and certifications. The annual salary range for full-time employment is $58,800 to $105,000.
