Data Analyst / BI Developer

Role overview

We are seeking an experienced Data Analyst / BI Developer at mid to senior level to turn raw information into clear, actionable business insight. This role is based in Sydney CBD with a hybrid working arrangement. Both contract and permanent options may be available. Applicants must have full Australian working rights.

You will partner with business stakeholders to create dashboards, improve reporting, and uncover insights that contribute directly to business outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Create and support interactive Power BI dashboards and reports.
• Build advanced DAX calculations and measures.
• Use Power Query (M Query) to clean, transform, and model data.
• Develop, refine, and tune SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and other database objects.
• Improve query efficiency and support fast, reliable reporting.
• Leverage Python to automate reporting tasks, analyse data sets, and simplify repetitive workflows.
• Work with stakeholders to gather reporting needs and deliver practical BI solutions.
• Maintain strong data quality, integrity, and consistency across reporting environments.

Required experience and capabilities

• Substantial commercial experience working with Power BI.
• Strong knowledge of DAX, including advanced development.
• Hands-on experience with Power Query (M Query).
• Advanced SQL ability covering complex querying, stored procedures, views, and performance tuning.
• Good Python skills for analysis, automation, and reporting.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and communication skills.

Nice to have

• Exposure to Azure.
• Background in data warehousing or ETL.
• Experience in insurance or financial services.

Additional information

This position is available at mid to senior level. Work location is Sydney CBD, with a hybrid setup. The engagement can be contract and/or full-time permanent depending on fit and business need.
