Role Overview

This position goes beyond a standard Controller role. You will lead finance and accounting end to end while designing the systems, processes, and reporting needed for a fast-scaling global business. Working closely with the founders and senior leadership, you will help turn finance into a strategic function that brings visibility, accountability, and confidence across the organization.

This is an opportunity for someone who prefers building strong foundations and lasting systems rather than simply maintaining existing ones.

Key Responsibilities

You will own the finance and accounting function across several business lines and help shape the infrastructure that supports continued growth.

• Direct the full finance and accounting operation across multiple business units.
• Manage month-end close, financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow oversight.
• Design scalable financial processes, internal controls, and systems that can support expansion.
• Create executive-level dashboards, key metrics, and reporting tools that improve decision-making.
• Work with leadership on planning, scenario analysis, and strategic financial initiatives.
• Supervise accounting operations, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, banking partnerships, tax compliance, and outside accounting providers.
• Increase financial clarity across operations, customer success, sales, media, technology, and product teams.
• Assess and adopt finance tools and technology that improve automation, efficiency, and reporting quality.
• Support revenue streams including memberships, education, certifications, live events, consumer products, partnerships, licensing, and media.
• Help build and strengthen the internal finance function as the company grows.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a hands-on finance leader with senior-level accounting and controllership experience in a growth-oriented environment. You should be comfortable partnering directly with founders and executives, and confident translating financial data into practical business decisions.

Additional Qualifications

• CPA certification in the US or Canada is required.
• At least 5 years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience, including a Controller or equivalent senior role.
• Background in a high-growth, entrepreneurial business environment.
• Strong capability in building systems, refining processes, and establishing financial structure.
• Solid knowledge of financial reporting, forecasting, cash management, internal controls, and multi-entity operations.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to convert financial information into business insights.
• Highly organized, accountable, and naturally proactive.
• Experience in education, memberships, digital commerce, media, consumer products, or subscription businesses is considered an advantage.

Bonus Experience

• Experience in startup or scale-up environments.
• Exposure to multi-entity or international operations.
• Experience building a finance function from the ground up.
• Experience managing outsourced accounting teams.
• Familiarity with modern finance tools and automation.

Work Details

This is a remote position available to candidates based in the US or Canada. A working schedule aligned with Eastern Time is preferred, or there should be significant overlap with that time zone.

Compensation

Pay will be aligned to the candidate’s experience level.
